Spotlight on Sofia! 🎉 Sofia spent an incredible year with us, studying General English, ACE, and IELTS courses. We’re so proud of all she has achieved! 🎓💜 Read her thoughts on her time at Universal English below. 👇

🦘 Why did you choose to study in Australia?

- All began with the fact that I wanted to improve my English, and for somebody that had always lived on the other side of the world, Australia was such a mystery for me. Digging inside all the different cultures and places here caught my attention instantly, so as soon as I got the chance to travel, I didn't think twice. Australia amazed me, and I will never regret coming here.

💕 What did you enjoy the most about studying at Universal English?

- Something I absolutely loved about UE are their teachers. Everybody knows that waking up early to attend class most of the time is really hard, however, that struggle for me disappeared when I met my teachers. Knowing that my classes would be fun, active and full of knowledge encouraged me to be active in class and want to learn more. In addition, my teachers are friendly, thoughtful and always willing to help. Without a doubt, they are the best English teachers I have ever had.

Meet Makoto (Japan 🇯🇵), a General English student who spent two months with us - read about his experience at Universal English and in Melbourne below! ☺️💬

1. Why did you choose to study in Australia? 🦘

- First of all, I heard that Australia is a very safe and beautiful place. Also, I visited it a long time ago on a school trip. That memory brought me back here again.

2. Why did you choose to study at Universal English? 📚

- This is because Universal English offers a variety of activities such as elective classes, excursions, and multicultural events. The teachers are very nice and friendly, which makes it easy for us to ask questions and have casual conversations with them without any hesitation.

3. How has studying at Universal English helped you achieve your goals? 🎯

- At first, I was trying to speak "perfect English". But every day, I saw my classmates speaking English without being afraid of making mistakes. Since then, I’ve been thinking, "It doesn’t matter if it’s perfect or not. Just be confident in expressing myself". Now, that’s my new way of thinking.

4. What did you enjoy the most about studying at Universal English? 🥰

- My classmates and teachers were from Japan, Korea, Colombia, Thailand, Iran, Vietnam, Ecuador, the USA, and Australia. I enjoyed talking with them about ourselves and our countries. More than just learning English, I got to learn about different values and global issues.

5. What’s next for you on your journey? ✨

- My journey? I would say... I'll just enjoy myself with confidence, courage, and ambition. That’s what my lovely friends taught me in that beautiful place. Someday, I’d like to see them again and talk a lot.

6. What’s your favourite place in Melbourne (or Australia) that you’d recommend to new students? 📌

- I loved Bourke Street Mall, where you can sit on a bench and watch street performers sing, right next to the H&M store with the big clock and tram stops.

"Before taking the barista course, I didn’t know much about coffee. However, through the course, I learned about different types of coffee, how to use a coffee machine and even how to create latte art. Since then, I’ve come to enjoy coffee more than ever. I’m really glad I took this course!”

Take a look at the UE Movie Screening from last week! ☺🎥

Two weeks ago, our Intermediate and ACE students began creating short horror movies to enhance their vocabulary, writing and speaking skills. 🧟‍♀️🎬

They produced creative short films and posters, and last week we held a fantastic screening day at the Student Grand Hall - 11 amazing short movies in the morning and 4 in the evening! 🍿

We also had sweet prizes for six different categories - scroll through the photos to see the winners! 🏆
